Built on craftsmanship · Rooted in trust

A home is more than a structure. It is where your life happens.

SouthFace builds and renovates homes across Birmingham and the Over the Mountain communities. Whether you are creating a home from the ground up or transforming the one you already love, we bring the same things to every project: decades of hands-on experience, a detailed plan before the first wall comes down, and a crew that treats your house as if it were their own.

We are not the cheapest bid – and our clients tell us that is exactly why they chose us. They get transparent pricing, a clean and organized job site, a project manager who answers the phone, and finishes that still look right years later.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with SouthFace and cannot recommend them highly enough. Our project was a major renovation that included opening up our living room, removing a load-bearing wall, installing the necessary structural support, redoing our floors, and bringing everything together so the space felt completely seamless. From start to finish, the entire team was incredibly professional. Communication was excellent throughout the project — we always knew what was happening, what to expect next, and felt completely comfortable asking questions along the way. They were dependable, respectful of our home, detail-oriented, and consistently went above and beyond. What impressed us most was how much they genuinely seemed to care about our home and the final result. It never felt like we were just another project on the schedule. They took pride in their work, paid attention to the little things, and wanted us to be truly happy with the finished space. The transformation is incredible, and the quality of the work exceeded our expectations. A renovation of this size could have been incredibly stressful, but SouthFace made the entire process feel organized and manageable. We are so grateful we chose them and would absolutely use them again for any future projects. Highly, highly recommend!

We needed a total renovation of our historical home inside and out. This required enhancing the design on the exterior and renovations throughout the entire interior of the house. Southface totally transformed our house and exceeded our expectations. They listened to our needs and were transparent on the process and with budgeting. We have built and constructed many houses over the years and I can say this was the best experience by far. The team is professional, honest and highly skilled. They worked on our house as if it was their own and took pride in delivering what we were expecting. If you have a major construction or renovation project like ours, Southface will limit your anxiety and deliver beyond what you expect. We will definitely use them again.

We had Southface Renovations and Construction complete a master bathroom and bedroom renovation, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The team was attentive, very clean, and communicated well throughout the entire process. Pricing was fair and transparent, and the work was done with great attention to detail. The crew was respectful of our home and kept the space organized every day. Owen and Mason were on the site consistently and we amazing to work with on this project. We would absolutely recommend Southface Renovations and will use them again in the future.

SouthFace recently completed a kitchen and bathroom remodel in my 1920s condominium. The kitchen portion of the remodel included opening a passthrough between the kitchen and dining room, and relocating the range, sink and dishwasher. The kitchen and bathroom were completely gutted and rebuilt using new designs. The project also included painting and refinishing the hardwood floors throughout the unit. Remodeling a 100 year old structure brings a unique set of challenges. Owen, the project manager, offered design ideas that greatly improved upon my initial ideas for the project and complemented the historic character of the unit. SouthFace’s team of craftsman did an excellent job in translating the design into a wonderful living space. Since I was out of the country for nearly the entire duration of the project, SouthFace had to coordinate across multiple time zones. Owen provided, at minimum, weekly video updates and contacted me when questions or issues arose. I can’t overstate how well Owen handled the remote coordination. SouthFace did an excellent job from inception through execution, completing the project in budget and on schedule. As a result, I recommend SouthFace as a remodeling contractor and I would use them again for another renovation project.

I made an excellent choice when I selected SouthFace for my full home renovation. Over the course of four months, they transformed my space completely, finishing in March 2025. Walls were taken down to create an open plan living area, others were moved to carve out a dedicated office, and my kitchen was completely reimagined—expanding into what used to be an outdoor porch. They also remodeled a bathroom to perfection. Throughout the project, communication was consistently excellent. I truly can’t say enough good things about Johnny, Owen, and Will. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for the outcome made the whole process smooth and even enjoyable. I would highly recommend SouthFace to anyone considering a high-end home remodel. I’m beyond pleased with the results.

The hardest part of our renovation was picking a contractor. I had a number of companies come by to look at our project, but SouthFace was by far the most detailed and complete quote we received. I’ve heard lots of horror stories on bad contractors, but SouthFace put all of those concerns to rest. Once we chose SouthFace, Owen and his team were awesome. They were helpful through our planning phase and did a great job on the work itself. Everything was done right to produce a high quality result — and there were no surprises along the way! They stuck to the plan, the budget & the timeline, all while navigating the unknowns of an old house. We couldn’t be happier with our decision and the results — we reconfigured and updated our kitchen/dining area and our master suite. I can’t recommend them enough to anyone wanting to take on a renovation! Owen and Johnny made the process easy and enjoyable.

    Questions homeowners ask us first

    What areas do you serve?

We build and renovate homes in Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Hoover, Greystone, Indian Springs Village and Chelsea, and across the greater Birmingham area including Trussville, Pelham, Helena and Alabaster.

Do you build new custom homes as well as renovations?

Yes. We do both: whole-home renovations and remodeling, and building – custom homes on your lot and additions. The same team and the same project management stand behind every project.

Can you work with my architect or interior designer?

Absolutely. We regularly build from our clients’ architects’ plans and work closely with interior designers. If you do not have a design team yet, we can introduce you to trusted partners.

How do you price a project?

After the consultation we prepare a detailed scope of work and a transparent proposal, so you know where your budget goes before anything starts. Changes during the project are priced and approved in writing before the work is done.

    Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. SouthFace is licensed by the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board and fully insured. We pull the permits our work requires and schedule all inspections.

Can we live in the house during a renovation?

Often yes. Many of our clients stay at home during kitchen, bath and partial renovations. We plan the phases, protect the rest of the house and keep the job site clean every day. For whole-home renovations we will help you decide what is practical.
